Well, the heat is here! It seems like yesterday when the cool days of late Texas spring were upon us. I like all the sessions I do, but one of my most recent favorite photo sessions happened in February, right as it was the most perfect temperature of the year. It was such a nice day out, so I was glad to take both indoor and outdoor maternity pictures. This couple had a great demeanor and worked so well together. Because of that, we were able to take some super unique maternity photos. Here’s a look into their combo outdoor/studio session.
Meet Adam and Amanda! This couple was gorgeous together — supportive, caring, and sweet. Adam was as invested in the photoshoot as Amanda. It can be difficult to get partners (of any gender) to participate wholeheartedly, but that wasn’t Adam! He was on top of all his “assignments”, and treated Amanda like a queen throughout!
We started in the studio with some more formal maternity gown looks. Amanda posed in a few different colors — the red formal dress above, a black gown, and a frilly baby blue number. I loved the blue dress, but Adam was in love with the red dresses Amanda chose in the studio and outside of it.
Amanda made some great choices when it came to her gowns because each one changed up the feel in the studio. The red gown gave a romantic feel (especially next to Adam in black), whereas the black paired well with black and white photography.
The blue gown was one of my favorite looks! It gave a little bit of a playful look, and I was just tickled that Adam brought a matching shirt.
All mamas deserve a moment in the spotlight, so even when their partners are in the picture, I like to make sure the focus is on them. But as well as focusing on the baby bump in couples’ photos, I like to make sure we get lots of solo maternity photos.
I love this cream-colored maternity gown. I worked a lot with lighting in these photos of Amanda. As you can see, each reposition of the light brought a different element to the photos. I especially love the shadowy side shot of Amanda above. It’s so contemplative.
With Amanda’s solo shots in her red gown, we got some powerful poses. My personal favorite is the one below. She struck this pose so naturally and it is so beautiful!
After some time in the studio, we headed over to Bull Creek District Park to take outdoor maternity shots. Everything, from the light to the temperature, worked to this photo shoot’s benefit. We took several shots throughout the park, from in front of some beautiful Texas hill country scrub scenery, and some in front of the creek.
We didn’t do a wardrobe change, but that worked to our advantage. The red maternity gown Amanda picked worked well with a variety of lights and scene changes. I just love the way these romantic couples’ photos turned out.
Thanks again to Amanda & Adam for choosing Hello Photography for Amanda’s maternity photos. I had a blast taking pictures with you!
