Life goes by in an instant, and no one knows this better than grandmas. For this set of family photos from back in the day, I was able to photograph three generations of women. It’s sessions like these that I look back so fondly upon, and they are the ones I aspire to. Each of them got to be themselves and show off their love for one another doing the things they do best — living. This is an oldie but a goodie. Check out Laura, Sophie, and Ginny in Garey Park in Georgetown!
Family Photos: A Surprise Session
Laura’s husband, Bryan, reached out to me to book this session. He said that all Laura wanted for her birthday/mother’s day was a tutu session with their daughter and Laura’s mom. What a wonderful way to celebrate with the people you love the most: Wearing a tutu and twirling around outside!
Laura and her mom, Ginny, wanted to wear turquoise tutus so I made Sophie something coordinating in her favorite colors. It was fabulous!
We did this session out at Garey Park in Georgetown, Texas. It is absolutely gorgeous out there, and not super crowded. You do have to pay a small entrance fee but it’s totally worth it to have the place pretty much all to yourselves.
At the time these family photos were taken, we had been in the midst of a period of intense rain. In fact, we had to reschedule this session 3 different times because of how intense the weather was!
It was muggy and hot and wet, which made things more magical when the weather got tamer. The creek was flowing and there was even a beautiful waterfall off in the distance.
It was warm and muggy that day so the creek was a great way for everybody to keep cool.
I like to keep family photo sessions super light and fun, and even casual! The casual nature of these sessions helps me capture candid moments and best represent family dynamics naturally.
For this family, I wanted to capture how these guys really are with each other in real life — fun, adventurous, and most of all loving.
During this photoshoot, we searched for fish, climbed big rocks. I loved getting to watch the adults get in touch with their inner child during these sessions.
I mean, look at Laura literally frolicking in this field! And talking about kids, we of course had to let kids be kids. Sophie even went for a swim!
We finished up at the creek and stopped in this incredible field of wildflowers. It was so open and empty and perfect for Laura and her mom.
I can’t say enough how much fun these sessions are! I loved how sweet this one was, and it’s one that sticks out fondly in my memories. Now, Sophie is much older, but I bet they all would still have this much fun if they took these family photos today.
