Very often, newborn photo shoots are a family affair. A newborn will come to the studio with mom, dad and siblings! Having people on the photo set can be very helpful to me and new moms alike. Any new mom will tell you that the first month is both exhilarating and exhausting. I try to offer newborn sessions as a little break for moms and encourage them to be as active a participant (or as passive) as they want. So, sometimes moms request family newborn photos — and who can blame them?
This family and their newest little addition was too cute to handle. Here’s more from their photoshoot.
Meet Agya, Mangesh, Aarus & Misha! Mom Agya & Dad Mangesh are seasoned parents, and Aarus was very ready for big brother duty (if you couldn’t tell from these photos). He was so sweet and gentle with his new baby sister. Aarus loved having a job to do, and he did it well.
Aarus was super cute throughout and brought a lot of cheer to the set. One of my favorite parts of this session was just how comfortable and relaxed Agya & Mangesh were, even when Aarus was being silly. Aarus had a big personality, and throughout the session he made many funny faces in the photos. Everyone loved it, including mom and dad.
Agya & Mangesh kept their wardrobes simple, but this made for some very cute photos. I love how they matched. Their casual dress kept the family photos cozy and comfortable. They’re great testaments to the fact that you don’t need to go above and beyond with your wardrobe to have a memorable photoshoot.
Although we did a lot of family newborn photos, some of my favorite shots of Misha were solo shots. Agya let me take the reins on the color theme, so we went bold and beyond the typical little girl pink. I love this one of little miss Misha on my newborn photo prop bed surrounded in daisies.
This photo was also indicative of Misha’s temperament during the photoshoot. She was a dream baby to have in the studio! She slept throughout most of the photoshoot.
Because there was no set color theme for Misha’s newborn photos, I played around a lot with texture and lighting. The top photo in the above set of three was a beautifully soft looking photo for so many reasons. We used the woolen texture in this shot, and I worked with filters to diffuse some of the lighting. The smile was an added bonus — don’t you just want to pick the whole photo up and snuggle it?
I also utilized some non-traditional newborn girl colors, and I loved the way these turned out. The stormy gray is sleepy and moody, and it adds a little extra pop to the gems in the crown.
Meanwhile, these photos taken on a red background were just so precious. This color, to me, is a symbol of love, and I wish I got to use it more often. Getting to pose baby Misha on this color was not only fun for me, but I hope will be a way to cherish the memory of when their little one was so tiny and so, so loveable.
Thanks to Agya, Magnesh, Aarus, and Misha of course for letting me take their family newborn photos. Want to take some photos with your family? Click here.
