Every Austin Studio Maternity session I do has its unique style, flair, and substance. Some moms want to focus on their journeys toward pregnancy. Others want to focus on a theme. I focused on the couple for Michelle’s maternity photos and made the session itself a classy affair! We stuck with blacks, whites, and red tones to give the photo session a red-carpet feel (just in time for the Oscars). I consider myself a high-end maternity photographer, and if you wanted a session that showed this, this would be the one to reference.
This couple was all about the class throughout the photoshoot!
Michelle & Dae are such a sweet couple with such excellent chemistry. It’s no wonder they’re starting this journey together. These photos are a testament to how strong their bond is. They look sure of themselves while also looking wholly fresh-faced and in love.
Another thing I appreciated about this photo session was how Dae showed up for Michelle! Sometimes it can be hard to match the formal nature of a floor-length maternity gown with husbands’ outfits. I don’t blame husbands for this! It can be weird to dress up for photos you may not be in for more than a few shots. However, Dae accepted the challenge! His classy suit looked natural next to the gowns Michelle picked for her Austin studio maternity session.
Michelle had some very classic studio maternity gowns, so I wanted to give her the red carpet feel for her session. For shots like this one — featuring a plum mermaid gown –, I manipulated the hem of the gown to give her the feeling of being the star of the ballroom.
We also did some profile shots in this maternity gown, too. The satiny fabric of this gown allowed me to focus on shadows and highlights within these shots. These shadows and highlights allowed for a dynamic set of photos that looked good in both black and white and color.
Though this maternity photoshoot looks reasonably simple at face value, it was anything but. One thing I appreciated about Michelle was she knew exactly what she wanted from this photoshoot. She wanted luxury and romance. We used a simple set to accomplish that, making a subject-forward setting for them to display their love for one another.
We did, however, do a few photos in this fun maternity gown where Michelle was by herself. For all my clients, I recommend taking maternity photos in an outfit that allows them to feel good throughout their session. It is up to them whether that means comfortable, ultra-fancy, or slightly sexy!
This sheer red maternity gown worked wonderfully with Michelle’s personality, in my opinion. She and Dae had great chemistry together, but Michelle was also her own woman! The photos she took in her red maternity gown gave me independent woman vibes and were a fun break away from her red carpet-worthy shoot. Overall, this session showed a dynamic picture of Michelle. I can’t wait to see how her personality grows with motherhood!
