New Year, new photos! Remember Jennifer from a few weeks ago? She did an absolutely stunning maternity shoot with her furry pal Jack, because her partner was recovering from knee surgery. Well, just a little after her maternity photoshoot, baby Henry came into the world seven weeks early! We ended up waiting to schedule his Austin newborn package so that he could have some time to settle in to the world.
Henry might have been early, but he certainly wasn’t shy on camera. Here he is in all his wonder!
An Austin Newborn Package With The Whole Family
Austin newborn photographers have to do some significant planning to make sure their sweet little subjects are ready for their session. Henry’s session was tricky because he was born so early! But what a cutie he is. Preemie babies need extra care their first few weeks, so we scheduled his newborn package for 5 weeks, when he was feeling and looking his newborn best.
He showed up to his newborn session with his mom (Jennifer) and dad Evan. His brother Jack, the family dog, sadly didn’t make it into his newborn photos, but that’s ok. It’s clear that Henry is the center of attention here, and I bet he gets lots of love from Jack at home.
Neutral Newborn Photo Colors
When clients work with a newborn photographer, they typically have some ideas in mind for session themes. Some are more elaborate than others. For Henry, we stuck with the basics for a family-focused session.
Jennifer & Evan chose a neutral palette for Henry, which ended up working out very well. They’re a pretty laid-back family, so this suited everyone’s personalities.
Plus, Henry’s full head of brown hair and rosy baby skin looked beautiful on white and cream backgrounds.
For a hint of traditional baby boy newborn theme, we added in some blues and browns — a blue newborn swaddling blanket and a furry brown faux sheepskin in a basket for added texture. I just love the way Henry’s silky, dark brown hair stands out against the tufts of wool and rough brown wood planks in the photo below.
A Beloved Rainbow Baby
If you’ve followed my blog and photography for any time, you know that I have a special affinity for rainbow baby photography. Rainbow babies are babies born after a pregnancy loss — a miscarriage, stillbirth, or other type of loss related to pregnancy. The rainbow is a symbol of light after a rainstorm. A symbol of hope. That symbol is one that many mothers, like me, feel deep in our souls. I love rainbow baby photography because I love being able to capture that hope and joy on film.
Sweet Mr. Henry is a Rainbow baby. While Jennifer didn’t want Henry’s entire newborn package to be all about rainbow babies, she did want to include a little nod to the fact that he was her rainbow after a storm. This seemed especially poignant after his premature birth. So, we made sure to include this rainbow baby pillow in his newborn photos. I just loved that of all the pictures we took, this was the one where he decided to smile.
If Henry is anything like Jennifer, Evan, or Jack, he is going to grow up in a household full of love and laughter. I am so excited for him and his parents to start on their journey of growth together.
