Baby Beckham — what a sweetie! Beckham’s family went with a neutral color palette for this high-end newborn photography session (which included an adorable monogrammed hat). This allowed us to put the main focus on the little star of the show. It also let me to play with textures & post-photoshoot editing. The bright, neutral color palette gave Mr. Beckham’s studio session an air of class and sophistication, which can be a great way to remember your baby’s calmest moments. I think his baby-only photos turned out as wonderfully as his family portraits, but I’ll let you be the judge.
Although mom Sondra and Dad Daniel accompanied Beckham to the studio for his photography session, Baby Beckham was the star of the show for a large part of this studio session! We focused on putting him in cute, safe newborn poses and worked a lot with lighting and texture so that nothing took away from his pinchable cheeks or tiny toes and fingers.
One of my favorite things about this session was just how expressive little Mr. Beckham was. He was quite the sleeper, but somehow no matter what pose I put him in his facial expressions matched the pose just perfectly! In the montage above, for example, I couldn’t get over his cute little smile in the upper left hand photo, his deep sleep faces in the upper right and bottom left photo, and his relaxed, chill vibe face in the lower right hand photo.
Beckham brought his face game to the party in every shot! It’s hard not to love his little sleepy pout in this photo.
Sondra & Daniel also joined into the newborn session fun, and it was so nice to be able to include them. This gorgeous couple are first time parents, so we definitely wanted to make sure to document the experience. We kept it classic and classy with a clean, white palette. Daniel, Sondra, and Beckham matched in their photos with a simple, sunny wardrobe. We also incorporated black and white as well as color portraiture for a variety, which went well with their outfits of choice.
Sondra & Daniel both have the most gorgeous hair, and the black and white photos brought out the luster and beauty of their locks really well! In the color portraits, I think I was better able to focus on their eyes and smiles. Different types of photography allow the viewer to focus on different elements of the photos, and this is clear with their black and white family photos vs. their color family photos. I also did shots at different angles to get a wider variety of photos, including the classic shot of mom from a bird’s-eye view!
In high end newborn photography, including parents in the photos is a great way to showcase just how small your baby is! Props can only do so much, because the people viewing your photo don’t have a concrete concept of how big a prop is. However, when people you know see you holding your little one in the future, they can get a feel for just how small they were at that age!
As well as providing some of the more standard high end newborn photography session poses, we also played around with black and white portraiture for just Beckham, as well as some photoshop fun. Baby Beckham was a great sleeper, so it felt only right to take these photos on one of my tiny prop beds.
In addition to the solo black and white portraits, I managed to capture this adorable one of Beckham with such a stunning sleepy smile! I couldn’t help imagining what he was dreaming about, which inspired me to enhance the photo with photoshop elements to create a dreamy setting. Whatever was on his mind, I’m so glad he stopped by the studio with his parents!
Thanks to Sondra, Daniel, and Beckham (of course) for making this high end newborn photography session run so smoothly.
