Baby Bump Photos in Austin, Texas

Spring is finally here, but not so long ago it was fall. The following session happened this past fall, right as the light was just starting to turn that gorgeous color we expect from the fading evenings. Everyone loves baby bump photos, and between the stunning light & foliage (plus, Amanda’s beauty!) Amanda’s maternity session did not disappoint. This was part of a combo package that featured studio and outdoor maternity photos.  Amanda and I know each other from the gym, which was an added bonus! I love being able to photograph people I know.

Here’s a peek into their gorgeous outdoor maternity photos, which look like a fairytale brought to life.

Outdoor Baby Bump Photos At Richard Moya Park

First things first, we headed out to Richard Moya Park to do a little bit of outdoor maternity photography. The park is a gorgeous spot for outdoor pics in the fall, because it has all those good Texas deciduous trees that give us our fall foliage! You get excellent examples of the foliage in the photos below, and there are spots all over the park where the light peeks in through the leaves. Amanda wore one of my favorite maternity dresses — this flowy, floral light green number. This was the first time it saw photo time outside of the studio!

Maternity Gowns & The Outdoors

Sometimes its hard to let go of my attachments to my maternity gowns to outdoor shoots. It’s almost like when you were a kid and you refused to take a toy out of the package or a tag off a Beanie Babie. I buy them and grow attached to them, and get worried they’ll get ruined, even though my clients are super respectful and responsible. That’s just the nature of being outside! If it’s muddy, it’s very easy to get the hems of long gowns stained — anyone who has had an outdoor wedding can tell you your train gets dirty even if it’s dry. But I can’t imagine Amanda not having that beautiful light green maternity gown after the fact. I’m glad she used it!

On the day we took Amanda’s pictures, it wasn’t muddy in as much as the creek was absolutely chock full of water. It went from being overrun with weeds and bone dry to overflowing in a matter of weeks.

So, for the safety of Amanda (and the preservation of the gown), we didn’t do normal creek photos at Richard Moya Park. But it turned out to be ok — it was absolutely stunning at our outdoor locations, especially the bridge. This is Moore’s Crossing, which used to be the congress avenue bridge. It was built in 1884, and now remains a local favorite photo spot for Austin travelers.

Studio Maternity Photos

If someone is doing both studio and outdoor photos, I like to use the opportunity to photograph different aspects of their personality. So you’ll notice that Amanda’s studio session is a lot more ‘classic’ in appearance. I really wanted to emphasize & be drastic — so we went with a very simple background and black and white maternity pics. Amanda did her best model poses in each shot. We’re talking sultry, moody, unforgettable poses that make use of drastic studio lighting.

I absolutely loved the way these come out. Knowing Amanda outside the studio, I can say that this combined session really captured a spectrum of her personality. I’m so glad that I was able to do that — and document a historical moment in her life. Amanda’s baby (Miles) was in the studio a couple of months ago,  and I can’t wait to show those to you- he is SO CUTE!
