This is a public service announcement for anyone considering Austin Family Photos! Don’t miss out on the chance to be in photos with your little ones. That time is precious, and no matter how self-conscious you are, those moments will be gone sooner than you know it.
Life happens. Your kids will change more and more every single day. When I first wrote this blog, my son was 4 years old and had just figured out how to get out of his seat and our truck on his own. He said, “that’s what big boys do.” I remember thinking What happened to that kid that I had to lift into the car because his legs weren’t quite long enough to get in himself? Now, my son is in middle school. Time happened!
I am constantly reminded that life happens and things change. Divorce, death, illness, struggles. They are all real things and they are happening all around us. Remembering the good times can seem hard when you’re in the thick of it, but photos really help.
Hadley is much more grown up nowadays, but back when I first did this photoshoot, this was the third year I photographed her and her dad! I looked forward to hearing from Lee every year about updates about the family. We always did something a little different to highlight the family changes over the years. Hadley was a sweet, polite girl even back then.
We did bluebonnets one year, downtown another. For this session, Lee wanted a country setting so Hadley could show off her favorite pink cowboy boots. We settled on Commons Ford Ranch in Austin. I loved this location because it had a lot of variety- sunflowers, a barn, and loads of greenery. It would have had an amazing sunrise had it not been super overcast and cloudy that morning.
It doesn’t matter what your family dynamic is- the important thing is to get in the pictures with your kids, even if you think you’ll look awful. I promise you won’t, but I do realize this is a common worry with adults. I even used to put off my own family photos. He’s now 4 and a half. I have all of these awesome pictures of my son, but so few of the two of us. It’s ridiculous, I think, I’m a photographer, it shouldn’t be this difficult. Luckily, I managed to get over this as I got older and realized how fleeting our kids’ childhoods are.
This is one thing that I love about Lee and Hadley. This session is just as much for Hadley as it is for her daddy. And it’s pretty clear how they feel about each other. Now, I’m going to start taking my own advice and set up more family sessions with my son!
