Austin, Texas maternity photography is so fun to do. I love taking my clients’ photos downtown, capturing the skyline, and sometimes taking a walk on the wild side in the local parks (like Brushy Creek Sports Park, a personal favorite with my secret photo spots).
But I also love getting the chance to take photos in my Austin-area photography studio. Getting a chance to work with my maternity clients and my props is an exercise in creativity, and it often nets beautiful results. This is especially the case when it comes to my maternity clients.
Clients like Robyn let me capture their curves and the natural beauty of pregnancy in studio sessions. Here’s a recent one I did with Robyn, her husband, Justin, and their daughter Sienna.
Most of my clients are local. But Robyn, Justin, and Sienna actually drove all the way from San Antonio for a maternity photo session! I felt so honored. Robyn had been looking in her area for a studio maternity photographer, but wasn’t having too much luck. She found me on Instagram and decided to make the trek up for some studio maternity shots in my Cedar Park studio.
For those of you unfamiliar with the distance, it takes about two hours (on a good day) to make the “stroll” from San Antonio to Austin. It’s not a short trip to take on your own, and it can seem a lot longer if you have a young one in tow! Luckily Sienna was a sweet as could be during her mom’s spotlight session.
Their family is welcoming baby #2 in the next few weeks, and if their baby is anything like them it will be full of smiles! Robyn’s growing family definitely means the world to her — you can see it in every photo with Sienna. That little one’s infectious energy brings out the sweetness in her parents. Robyn took some very beautiful, serene looking photos by herself and with Justin, but with Sienna in the picture it was hard to keep a straight face.
Robyn is a hairstylist by trade, and she’s definitely good at what she does. I’m still raving about the color of her hair, which she wears beautifully. Currently, Robyn and Justin are waiting to learn the gender of their baby. Their photos clearly show that they’re in love with one another (and Sienna), so I’m sure the surprise will be happy no matter the gender their newest addition turns out to be!
Robyn was absolutely amazing at creating atmosphere in this studio maternity session. She brought the best of her fierce independence to the session, and it absolutely shows.
Mood aside, the maternity dresses Robyn picked out were black and white, which are perfect for studio sessions. Colors are wonderful, but black and white clothing really gives maternity photographers some room to play around with shadows and highlights in their shots.
As you can see in this photo shot, despite her dark hair, you can almost see every strand of it cascading down her shoulders over the black dress. Its the lighting in these shots that really makes me excited to do what I do for a living!
Justin, too, was photogenic and supportive throughout the whole photography process. I love this shot of them below. They way their outfits contrast, Justin’s knowing and mysterious smile, and Robyn’s contentedness really tie their couples’ portraits together.
Working with Robyn, Justin, and little Sienna in my Cedar Park photography studio was a delight. I felt deeply privileged that their growing family traveled so far to come see me, and I am just in love with the way these photos came out.
Hopefully Robyn, Justin, Sienna, and their newest family member will stop by again in the future for some newborn photos!
