It’s summer here in the Austin area, and let me tell you, there are some hot days when even I don’t want to work. Austin newborn pics can be tricky to take during the summer. If adults can barely handle the heat and humidity, you can imagine how tiny little ones might feel. Luckily, there are many things parents can do to help their baby get through the heat of the summer and keep them happy.
Baby Kennedy’s mom was a total champ when it came to helping me and Kennedy out during this session. The results were pretty sweet!
Little Kennedy was the center of attention for this newborn photoshoot. Hers was a baby-only session, which meant that we focused solely on Kennedy during the session. Mom & dad sat this one out! But that doesn’t mean they weren’t part of the making of the picture.
Kennedy was three weeks old at the time of this session, and already an active gal!
You wouldn’t be able to tell from these photos, but she never really fell into a very deep sleep. That’s where mom stepped in! There was a lot of cuddling, shushing, and soothing during her session. Though my little Cedar Park studio was air conditioned, I can’t help but think Kennedy wasn’t buying it. I can’t say I blame her — going from a temperature-controlled tummy to a scorching Texas summer isn’t exactly what I’d call ideal. I get fussy about the heat sometimes, too.
Pink and purple are popular colors for newborn girls, and these colors really compliment newborn babies. They add a touch of whimsical color to newborn photos without being too bright. They also sometimes make babies look like little woodland fairies, and I like to think Kennedy looks a bit like a little fairy in the photos above.
It can be difficult to base an entire theme around a color scheme, but it isn’t impossible! My maternity & newborn photography studio is stocked with props that help create a story for babies. We worked a lot with texture, using waffle-patterned blankets, lace, and jersey knit like we did in these photos above.
We also used a lot of well-loved props. I’m a huge fan of my new heart-shaped bowl, which holds newborns just perfectly. Everyone loves my tiny newborn bed, too (I can’t blame them… it’s really cute). It even looks like Kennedy liked it after a while! She settled down and looked like an angel snuggled up in her little bed.
After newborn sessions with me, I typically spend some time perfecting them. This session happened in a whirlwind, and I’m not mad about it. Kennedy’s mom (and I) both love the way the final pictures came out.
Kennedy’s mom contacted me initially on a Wednesday to schedule a newborn photoshoot. We scheduled a shoot for that Friday, which almost never happens. I was feeling extremely motivated that weekend after the photoshoot, and Kennedy’s mom must have also been. She returned her final selections to me the Monday after her photoshoot and I got her the finalized pictures on Wednesday! Not bad timing, all things considered.
Little Kennedy looks super in these photos. I’m so pleased with how they turned out, and I think the family is, too.
A special thanks to baby Kennedy for putting up with the summer heat, different poses, and several outfit changes when she would have rather been hanging out solo with mom. She’s a trooper!
