Brushy Creek Sports Park | Perfect Cedar Park Photo Ops

I’ve been doing a ton of newborn photography as of late (I promise pics to come!), so I’ve been spending a lot of time in my Cedar Park photography studio. But newborn photography aside, I love getting a chance to do outdoor photoshoots, and one of my favorite spots is Brushy Creek Sports Park.

Even with tourist season in full swing in the springtime, Brushy Creek Sports Park offers some nice, quiet spots perfect for taking maternity photography, family photos, and more. Here are some of my favorite things about Brushy Creek Sports Park.

A Little Something For Everyone

Living in Cedar Park, Texas, I’ve been to this park quite a bit — especially to do maternity shoots and family photos. The sports park connects to Brushy Creek Lake Park, a local favorite for cooling down on a summer day and drinking in those gorgeous Austin-area views. It also has the Williamson county 8-mile trail. You can find everything from basketball courts to a skate park and a playground for younger kiddos in the sports park proper.

All this is to say that if you or your family enjoy getting outside at all, this is a great place to make a day. Planning a maternity shoot or family photo session with young ones can be challenging because they’re kids, and they want to play! With access to playgrounds, a lake, and more, it’s easy to incentivize staying still for a few good photo shots.

Brushy Creek Lake

Brushy Creek Sports Park is right next to the Lake park, which has ample numbers of trails around the lake itself.

While there are plenty of beautiful, well-trodden areas around the lake itself, I’ve found some gorgeous quiet places to take serene pics for maternity photos. I especially love the off-the-beaten-path spots by the bridge in the park. They provide some of the loveliest spots where nature intersects with man-made structures. They give maternity photoshoots a bit of a rustic feel, perfect for growing Texas families.

Wooded Trails Next To Brushy Creek

The wooded trails have been a little more crowded over the past few weeks because springtime in the Austin, Texas, area is a popular time to visit. It’s cool and lovely, and everything is in bloom, which makes the trees lining the park’s wooded trails that much more lovely.

Maternity photos come out great in these wooded trails. They give me ample opportunities to play with lighting and shadow, which is essential for maternity pictures. For family photos, trees in the background provide the perfect background setting for a wholesome, pastoral family portrait. If you’re looking for a quick trip from Austin to somewhere wooded, Brushy Creek’s trail system is where it’s at.

Wildflower Season

Of course, wildflower season (spring) is one of the best times to come out to Brushy Creek Sports Park. Everywhere you turn, there’s an opportunity to snap a pic in some of those famous Texas wildflowers everyone flocks to see. This year, the big freeze messed up the bloom schedule a little bit, and we’re still getting gorgeous wildflower blooms still in June as the temperatures heat up. Brushy Creek even has Texas Bluebonnets — though, getting a snapshot with a patch of Texas Bluebonnets might mean waiting in line.

One of the perks of booking a maternity session with me? I know some secret spots at Brushy Creek Sports Park where the crowds aren’t so hectic. I’ve even managed to snap some solitary Bluebonnet maternity pics in the height of tourist season!

Accessible But Still Wild

I joked in one of my previous maternity photoshoot blogs about my adventurous pregnant mamas tackling the tricky terrain to get the perfect shot. One of the reasons I like Brushy Creek? You can get maternity photos that look like you took them in the middle of some rural wooded area without having to put too much stress on pregnant mamas and little kids for family photos. Brushy Creek Sports Park in Cedar Park even has wildlife (like deer) that sometimes grace a stray photo.

I can’t recommend this place enough. The next time you’re in Cedar Park, make sure to stop by this beautiful place and take a few photos. Or, if you want a tour guide and professional photographer, get in touch.
