When this family first came to my Leander studio, it was just the three of them: mom, dad, and their first newborn, Ethan. As an Austin newborn photographer, I had no idea I would still be photographing them years later, with two more babies, a growing stack of sibling photos, and a friendship I treasure.
This is the part of my work I love most as a newborn photographer. I get to watch families grow, one baby at a time, and there is nothing quite like welcoming a family back to the studio and seeing how much has changed since the last time I curled a tiny newborn into my hands.
What our Austin newborn sessions are like
If you have never done a studio newborn session before, here is what to expect. Every session is baby-led, which means we move at your baby’s pace. We take all the time we need for feeding, soothing, and snuggles, and we never force a pose. Babies are always supported and safe, and if your little one isn’t comfortable in a setup, we simply move on to the next one. My studio in Leander is fully equipped and kept warm and cozy, so your baby stays comfortable while you relax and let me handle the posing. I also keep a client closet stocked with wraps, gowns, and textures, so you don’t have to stress about what to bring. The goal is always the same. Calm, connected images that feel like your family, made in a space where you can settle in and enjoy the experience.
That is the experience this family came back for, three times.
Baby Ethan
Ethan was the one who started it all. Dad held him against the dark backdrop with this quiet, focused tenderness, the kind you cannot pose or fake. There is a black and white frame of the two of them that still stops me every time I see it. Mom curled around him in the soft gray sets, and we captured those peaceful wrapped sleeper shots on the plaid blankets that are still some of my favorites. First babies have a particular magic, that wide open, everything is new feeling, and Ethan’s session was full of it.
Baby Adalynn
Then came Adalynn, and suddenly there was a big brother in the room. Some of my favorite frames from her session are not the solo baby shots at all. They are the ones of Ethan leaning in to get a look at his little sister, that mix of curiosity and pride that only a brand new big sibling has. We tucked them together for a few setups, and the way he looked at her told the whole story. Watching this family stretch from three to four was a gift, and I loved seeing how gentle Ethan already was with her.
Baby Elena
And then Elena made them a family of five. By this session, the studio felt like a reunion. We brought the whole family together, all the kids piled in, with that beautiful, busy energy that comes with a full and loving household. Dad held Elena exactly the way he had held Ethan and Adalynn years before, in the same pose, against the same dark backdrop. Setting those three images side by side, one for each baby, is one of the reasons I do this work. You can see the years pass and the love hold steady.
More than a newborn photographer
I will share one thing about this family, because it is part of why they mean so much to me. Dad served in the military, and today he serves Austin as a firefighter. The same steadiness you see in the way he holds his babies is the steadiness this community gets to count on. Getting to document this family across three babies and three seasons of their life has been one of the honors of my career.
Bring your family back, again and again
Some of my most meaningful relationships started with a single newborn session and grew from there. I photograph a lot of repeat families, and many of my clients come back for each new baby, for milestone and first birthday sessions, and for family portraits as the kids get bigger. There is something special about being the photographer a family trusts with every chapter, and I never take it for granted.
