Hello photography

Oh my! One of my favorite things about doing Austin baby bump photography in studio is the dynamic nature of the studio. My clients often use props, showy backgrounds, and several different maternity gowns in their photos. But Janice and her family had a stunning session using only a few backgrounds and two simple maternity gown changes. Sometimes, less is more, and one look at this maternity blog will show you that a studio maternity session can be simple, minimalist, and extremely classy.  Let’s meet the family of the hour!

Janice’s Austin Baby Bump Maternity Session

Meet Janice, her husband Peter, and their daughter Chloe. Chloe is anxiously waiting for little sister, and you can see how excited she is in the photos below. I love how well Miss Chloe posed for the camera — she took directions for poses like a champ, mirroring many of the poses her mom and dad took. But she also brought her own personality to it– from the way she looked at her mom to her sparkly outfit. I just love that although Janice and Peter wore their formal best, miss Chloe added a little sugar and spice to the photos. The pink dress, bows, and little pink shoes brought almost as much vibrancy to the photo session as Chloe did!

I made sure to include several color portraits in Janice’s baby bump package. Especially in the photos with just she and Chloe, the contrast between her deep black gown and Chloe’s little pink dress brought a lot to the photo. To me, it said that this is a family that values their time together, but isn’t afraid to let their personalities shine through.

Four black and white photos of a young couple (man and woman) posing in ways that emphasize the woman's baby bumpThe same is true for the shots that included Peter and Janice. They both brought their professional looks to their studio session, but they were giving nothing but unbridled joy and love when they posed.

Solo Baby Bump Photos

One thing I feel is very important for mothers during their maternity sessions is for them to get solo photos, even if their family has come to be part of the pictures. I have found is that sometimes well-meaning family members, friends, and co-workers can put the emphasis on the baby rather than the mom. It can be hard for moms to deal with the ups and downs of pregnancy when they feel like a second thought, so I like to remind them that their pregnancy is really about them! Taking gorgeous, standalone photos can make a difference in the way a pregnant person feels about themselves and their pregnancy.

Janice was drop-dead gorgeous. I loved being able to capture her strength, beauty, and grace during her session while just focusing on her.

Of course, we did lots of photos with everyone, and with every baby bump pic I took I aimed to tell a story about their family. Janice, Peter, and Chloe were more than just a well-dressed family. This family exuded love and joy — and their newest member of the family is so lucky to have them!

Thanks to Janice, Peter, and — of course — the adorable Chloe for making this a really fun studio maternity photo shoot.
