Spring may be here, but I’m always in the mood for a good outdoor fall photo! Kunjal’s Austin TX, maternity photos were taken in Bull Creek District park on a beautiful, warm fall day. Although I did play with some black-and-white photo editing (you’ll see those below), I really wanted to bring out the full glory of the fall. Autumnal colors, Kunjal’s maternity dresses, and Kunjal herself (who is stunning!), made this entire session feel like it took place in the setting of a storybook.

Austin TX Maternity Photos in Bull Creek District Park
Meet Kunjal and Avdhut. We headed out to Bull Creek District Park last fall to take these photos, bringing two gowns from my maternity client closet. Most maternity photographers have their own wardrobe full of a variety of maternity gowns. Although some clients choose to purchase and wear their own, it’s not something I require. I like to offer the use of gowns for my “all-inclusive” maternity packages, because I think it takes a bit of stress off planning for the session.
Kunjal’s gown choices were perfect for her session, given the lighting (especially off the water) and the fall foliage. The white maternity gown, featured above, was great for the low-light shots as the afternoon wound down and sunset crept into shots.
For the brighter lighting, the red velvet gown Kunjal chose perfectly complemented the fall foliage and her dark, gorgeous hair.
Kunjal & Avdhut: An Autumn Love Story
Don’t these photos give you wonderful storybook vibes? One of my favorite things about shooting maternity sessions in the fall is how well the light works in our advantage. Especially in places like woods and next to creeks and rivers, the right lighting can give photos a misty feeling. We definitely had some stunning lighting during this session. The way it came in not only over the water but also the rocks in the background.
I particularly love the the rosy light in these photos, but the shadows and lighting worked out really well for black and white photos, too. In black and white photos, I use the landscape to my advantage as a point of contrast. In photos where Kunjal and Avdhut are wearing white, I put them against a darker background, such as the woods or shadowed river rocks. However, in photos where Kunjal is wearing her dark red gown, I put her against light colored backgrounds, like brightly-lit rocks or shrubs. This gives the photo a sort of ethereal feeling, as well as helping Kunjal stand out. 
But really, the most compelling story that came out of Kunjal’s maternity photoshoot was not what the photos looked like. It was the love story between Kunjal and Avdhut. I really enjoyed being able to capture their chemistry together as we took these photos. They were so sweet to one another. I hope it is something that they can look back on when they hang their photos in their home.
Documenting the story of a relationship as it grows is so important. I think that is one of the reasons I love doing maternity photography so much. Thanks so much to Kunjal and Avdhut for letting me document their story. I’m looking forward to hearing more about their next chapter with their little one!
