Twin Creeks Historical Park: A Beautiful Cedar Park Maternity Photo Location

If you’ve been scrolling through maternity photos and wondering where those gorgeous stone walls and wooded canyon shots were taken — there’s a good chance the answer is Twin Creeks Historical Park in Cedar Park. It’s one of those locations that feels completely removed from the suburbs even though it’s right there in the middle of the Cedar Park area, and I love it for that reason.

Where Is Twin Creeks Historical Park?

Twin Creeks Historical Park is located in Cedar Park, Texas. It’s tucked into a natural canyon setting that gives it a completely different feel from other parks in the area — you’d never guess it was surrounded by neighborhoods.

What Makes Twin Creeks Special

The moment you start walking down the path toward the main shooting area, you’ll understand why I love this place for maternity photography in Cedar Park. The park features:

  • Stone walls and a stone staircase — These architectural elements give Twin Creeks a completely unique look that you won’t find at most Austin-area outdoor locations. The stone is old, mossy, and beautiful — perfect for a variety of poses and compositions.
  • A wooded canyon setting — Because the park sits down in a natural canyon, the tree canopy is lush and dense. This means the light is soft and beautiful even a little later in the morning or earlier in the evening than you’d expect.
  • A historic old house on the grounds — I’ll be honest, the house itself has seen better days. But the grounds around it? Absolutely stunning. We use the surrounding area, not the structure itself.
  • The walk back to the car — One of my favorite things about Twin Creeks is that we get shots on the way in AND on the way out. The paved path leading down to the park has its own beautiful moments, and depending on the season, wildflowers pop up along the sides.

The Walk — What to Expect

Here’s the practical part: the main shooting area is about a 10-15 minute walk down a paved path from the parking area. You cannot drive down, but you absolutely can bring a stroller or wagon for little ones — the path is paved and manageable.

My advice: wear comfortable shoes for the walk. You can absolutely change into your session shoes or gown when you get to the location — most of my clients do exactly that. Just plan for the walk in something you can actually move in.

If you’re bringing toddlers, they’ll be fine on the path — but bring a stroller or wagon for the walk back when tired little legs give out. 😄

Best Time to Shoot at Twin Creeks

Evening golden hour is stunning here — the canyon setting catches that warm late-day light beautifully, especially through the trees.

Morning works too — because the park is down in a canyon, you get softer light a bit later into the morning than you would at more open locations. So if you’re not a sunrise person, Twin Creeks is a little more forgiving.

Fall is absolutely spectacular. The canyon setting means the leaves hold on a little longer than elsewhere, and the fall colors here are some of the best I’ve seen at any Austin-area location. If fall maternity photos are your dream, put Twin Creeks at the top of your list.

Year round is great — spring wildflowers along the path, lush summer greens, brilliant fall colors, and soft winter light. This location works beautifully in every season.

What to Wear at Twin Creeks

Any style works beautifully here — the location is versatile enough for flowy formal gowns, fitted dresses, or casual boho looks. The stone walls and wooded paths create a naturally stunning backdrop that complements almost any outfit.

What to Know Before You Go

  • It’s quiet but not deserted — you’ll see a few dog walkers and occasionally some kids biking through, but it’s one of the calmer parks in the Cedar Park area. Never crowded.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes — change into your session look when you arrive at the location.
  • Bring a stroller or wagon if you have toddlers joining your session.
  • The canyon stays cooler — because it’s sheltered, this location tends to feel a little cooler than open parks. Great news in the Texas summer!
