Most of my followers know me as an Austin maternity photographer. I travel to Austin proper frequently to do outdoor maternity shoots and family photos. However, my studio is really located in Cedar Park, a little city right outside of Austin in the heart of a bunch of beautiful parks and natural scenery. Almost all of my indoor photo sessions happen here, including this one! Having a central location outside of the metro city allows me to serve more people in the area, and it’s a great reason to get out of the wonderful weirdness of Austin and into the quiet greenery. My Cedar Park photography studio is home to my extensive client closet, which you’ll get to see a lot of in Jess’s maternity photos.
Take a wander through this stunning maternity set with Jess and Ryan!
Meet Jess! You’ll get the chance to meet she and Ryan’s little one in another post, but this session was all about capturing her beautiful self.
Jess was so stunning in her maternity photos. She has these expressive, bright blue eyes that caught the studio light so beautifully. While she modeled many maternity gowns during this set, this one from my client closet (“The Bluebell Cloud Wrap”) was a personal favorite. It matched her eyes like it was made exclusively for her!
Her steel blue eyes, the misty gray backdrop we used, and this gown made this part of the session feel like I was photographing a fairy tale princess! The photos came out looking magical.
I’m a huge fan of a maternity dress wardrobe change. It’s nice to feel dressy sometimes when you’re this far along in your pregnancy. Sometimes clients will buy their own maternity gowns, but they certainly don’t have to. I have a whole closet at my Cedar Park photography studio with different colors, styles, and accessories to make a maternity session feel special.
First, a navy blue to match the dusty blue dress…
…then this black floral dress from the client closet, called “Midnight Bloom”.
Jess had a beautiful, neutral makeup palette on that allowed her to seamlessly mix and match maternity gown colors.
Ryan did an excellent job matching the palette of these photos. He wore blue jeans and a black shirt, which went with the blue and black maternity gowns well.
The first part of the photoshoot felt serene and ethereal, with the soft blues and the neutral gray background. But Jess also wanted some moody lighting in her photos, and I thought that this maternity gown was the best gown to do the trick!
This dusky, crinkly peach tulle of her maternity gown really picked up contrasts so well. We used shadows to bring out her features on the set.
This lighting also highlighted her blue eyes. Between the brightness and the neutral, contrasting color palette, these shots really made her eyes stand out.
Thank you so much to Jess and Ryan for a memorable studio maternity session. Stay tuned to the blog for more from this family — now three — as I share baby Everett’s newborn session soon!
