Baby photo sessions happen exclusively in my Cedar Park studio. That’s where I can make sure baby is safe, sound, and secure while we pose and take photos. So, when this sweet family DM-ed me on my Instagram, we decided on a date to take some adorable Cedar Park baby photos. Check out Arlo’s newborn session!
Meet Arlo and his family. Super cute, bubbly, and wide-awake during a lot of his time in the spotlight, Arlo and fam had a surprise up their sleeve for me.
Mr. Arlo here? Just shy of six weeks old. He is one big bundle of newborn cuteness.
In fact, he is definitely the biggest newborn baby I have seen in my studio! His size didn’t stop us from taking all the usual newborn session pics, and in a few months they’ll be able to look back at Arlo and see how small he really was.
Arlo had these bright, shining eyes that he couldn’t take off mom and dad throughout the whole session. And they’re clearly as smitten with him as he is with them!
They spent so much time holding, playing, and snuggling him. And he was happy as a clam during it all!
Eventually, all that snuggling and playtime led to a need for a nap. Arlo closed his eyes and let mom and dad hold him for a few more very sweet shots.
I just love a sleepy newborn. There’s nothing like them in this world!
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that it is easier to pose baby when they are asleep. So, this is when we get to set babies up in more traditional newborn photography poses.
I’ve done training on how to safely pose a newborn, and we use gentle props and composite photos to get the perfect picture.
In the photo above, for instance, I use Photoshop to splice together multiple pictures. This gives viewers the illusion that the baby is sitting up by himself, and it provides contrast between the baby and the background. Newborns do not have the muscle development to hold their heads up yet, so we have to support them.
As well as swaddling and posing Mr. Arlo, we also put him in some cute little props. I tend to use more textured items, like the jute rope, around the baby instead of touching the baby, and the softer props like wool to prop the baby up. All these props have the added benefit of providing interesting texture to the pictures.
He looks so peaceful in these basket photos, and I love how you can see his gorgeous curls in the closer shots. Not all babies are graced with a beautiful head of hair, but Arlo certainly was.
We also did a few of Arlo in a new prop bed. As it often does, the little white teddy bear made an appearance on these tiny bed photos.
And I was able to get a few close up shots of those cute feet, too. Because who can resist baby feet?
I’m so glad that this family was able to find me on Instagram, because I loved getting to meet this cutie. Wishing the very best for them this upcoming year!
