Perfect Summer Maternity Photo Spots | Hello Photography

Summer isn’t gone quite yet, though it may seem that way! You can still plan out your summer maternity photos, family portrait sessions, and baby milestone photos before it gets too cold or the sun starts to set too early. I love brainstorming photo spots with my clients. In my opinion, these are the perfect summer maternity photo spots in the Austin, Texas, area.

The University Of Texas Campus

The University Of Texas campus is a beautiful spot to take photos. Moms-to-be looking for a little bit of an urban flair with a rustic feeling should consider this spot, especially during summer when fewer students attend the campus. Featuring gorgeous Victorian-era architecture, Spanish tilework and frescoes, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, there’s a little bit of something for everyone here.

Brushy Creek Sports Park

I hope you aren’t sick of hearing me hype up Brushy Creek Sports Park as one of the most perfect photo spots, but here I go again. I love Brushy Creek Sports Park. Located in Cedar Park, Texas (just outside of Austin), Brushy Creek Sports Park is right along its namesake creek. It also borders Twin Lakes, home to Twin Lakes falls.

Abundant water sources at Brushy Creek mean several things: For one, it ensures there’s always some sort of greenery around, even in the hottest parts of summer. Trees surround the bike paths and walking trails, which makes for great photo ops. The proximity to the water also means it’s cooler than many places, especially downtown Austin. Pregnancy and summer heat don’t always mix!

Downtown Austin Skyline Summer Maternity Photo Shots

I feel like I’m cheating a little bit with this one because there are several places you can get amazing shots of the downtown skyline. But as an Austin maternity photographer, I can’t just not mention the skyline. In the summer, Austin gets some incredible sunsets that make Austin skyline the perfect background for urban maternity photos.

Hamilton Pool Summer Maternity Photo Ops

Hamilton Pool is located in Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge in Dripping Springs, Texas. A bit of a drive from Texas, anywhere in Balcones Canyonlands is worth the adventure. Hamilton Pool is especially gorgeous. It features a turquoise-blue pool, waterfall, and sandy cliffs that make a gorgeous, rugged setting for perfect summer maternity photos.

Hamilton Pool is a slight hike of about .25 miles but worth it for adventurous mamas.

McKinney Falls State Park

For a less rugged, closer photo set, McKinney Falls State Park is also one of my favorite summer maternity photo spots. I’m promoting lush spaces and maternity sources for summer maternity photoshoots. Anyone who has done a maternity shoot before understands that it can be a long day, even in the best circumstances. During a hot Texas summer, it can seem even longer. Places with shade and a breeze bouncing off the water make it that much more bearable to pose for several photos.

Plus, it’s impossible not to fall in love with the park. It features waterfalls, natural rock formations, trees, and even a 500-year-old cypress tree.

Zilker Botanical Gardens

The Zilker Botanical Gardens are closer to home. However, with the amount of greenery, birds, and pollinating insects in the gardens, it hardly feels like you’re in Austin. The Zilker Metropolitan Park, of which the botanical garden is part, is on over 28 acres of land right in the middle of downtown Austin. It features novelty trails, like the woodland fairy trail, prehistoric gardens, and paths through rose gardens. The perfect summer maternity photo waits for anyone in the botanical gardens!

Bull Creek District Park

Bull Creek District Park is a gem. Located in Austin, it offers a feeling of seclusion without leaving the city. If you’re looking for a maternity photo session next to a water source, Bull Creek can easily offer that. Featuring easily accessible trails, lush forest cover, and quiet spots along the creek for photo opportunities, this is a great place to get a magical sunset shot or afternoon halo.

The Perfect Summer Maternity Photo At Sekrit Theater

I can’t get away without mentioning the Sekrit Theater for a weird (and wonderful) photo opportunity. This spot is a favorite of Austin photographers, as it offers botanical gardens, strange architecture, and a mix of the bizarre that Austin is known for. The greenery at Sekrit Theater is lush throughout summer, making it a perfect spot to get the authentic feel of Austin’s hip and outdoorsy personality in your maternity photos. Sekrit Theater maternity sessions have to be pre-scheduled with the venue, so be sure to book them quickly!
