Meet Juliette, Morgan, and Morris. Over the past year, I’ve had the absolute joy of documenting so many of their family’s milestones—starting with Morgan’s maternity session, then welcoming sweet Juliette into the world with a tender newborn session, and two joyful family sessions. It’s been a beautiful journey watching Juliette grow and seeing this family’s love grow right alongside her. So, when Morgan reached out about doing a cake smash for Juliette’s first birthday milestone, I couldn’t wait. We already had a rhythm, mutual trust, and a shared excitement that made planning this session a dream. So, check out this dreamy floral, pastel cake smash session with Morgan, Morris, and Juliette.

Before things get messy, I like to get all the non-cake smash photos out of the way. I started with some cozy portraits of Juliette, Morris, and Morgan.

Morgan has this calm, radiant presence about her, and Juliette just lights up in her arms. You can tell she feels safe and adored.

Juliette went through a few wardrobe changes during her mom and dad photos, including this white dress. I particularly liked this white dress since her mom wore one to match. They looked so cute together.

I especially love this one of Juliette looking over mom’s shoulder. Who can resist those two little front teeth? So adorable. As someone with a baby who is growing up way too fast, I have to say that you always miss those little details (teething pains aside!)

Morris also dressed in white to match Juliette. This photo goes to show that she’s just as much of a daddy’s girl as she is a momma’s girl!

Once we had the portraits, it was time for the main event: the cake smash.

The setup was overflowing with florals. Juliette’s headband was a mix of delicate lavender sprigs, soft pink and blush blooms, and tiny rosettes. There were also florals in the background.

For balloons, we went lavender (to match her dress) and copper. Every detail felt celebratory, like a garden blooming just for Juliette.

She really loved the balloons, as you can see.

At first, Juliette was a bit tentative about smashing the cake, not getting as messy as many other cake smash babies have in the past.

Then she got a taste and realized, “Oh! This is the good stuff!” And that was it—game on.

Here she is looking a little confused — what do you mean you want me to make a big mess? Is this something I am supposed to do? It doesn’t feel quite right…

She dug in with one hand, and delicately got little flecks of frosting on her arms and legs. All the while, she gave us sweet, toothy grins.

Who can blame her? Cake is yummy!

This was a one-of-a-kind cake smash. Usually, babies either get super messy (yay, mess!) or super fussy (boo, mess!). Juliette was a rare wonder. She just didn’t know what to expect, and went with the flow. I love this little one! So cute and fun to work with.

Here’s to Juliette for hitting that sweet milestone — one year old!
I do a lot of newborn sessions, and a lot of maternity sessions. Cake smashes are not common in my calendar, but always a fun diversion from day-to-day at the studio. Here, you can learn more about my milestone, cakesmash, and family session offerings: MILESTONE|CAKESMASH|FAMILY
