These baby bump photos are a lesson in stepping out of your comfort zone. Normally, I photograph Austin’s local families. But this time was different! Angel, Jonathan, and Liam were from out of state and had actually planned a visit to the area to see family. While here, they also planned their maternity set at Hello Photography Austin, and it came out really well (if I do say so myself!) Utilizing a combination of indoor and outdoor sets, we managed to get the perfect combo of dreamy and casual that will help them remember their pregnancy for years to come.
This adorable family started out in the Hello Photography studio with me before we headed out to the outdoor location. To begin with, we did a little bit of a more casual get up, where mom, dad, and kiddo could all kick back in jeans and white tees. But casual did not mean that this crew looked like they just rolled out of bed. In fact, Angel started the day with a little bit of local TLC from a local favorite, Sharon Marie Makeup. I think she did an amazing job, highlighting Angel’s natural beauty.
This family is so darn cute to begin with, anyway. And Liam? Don’t get me started! His little feet? Big blue eyes? Long mop of blonde hair? The cutest!
I loved working with this crew in the studio. The were so responsive and fun, and Liam was a smiley guy (as evidenced by the above picture). I took both black and white and color phots, as well as full portraits.
Black and white maternity photos are timeless, which is something I particularly love about them.
They also can create a sense of romantic tenderness that can be hard to achieve in maternity photos. Take this one below, for instance. The lighting and the careful detail shows that Jonathan is just as smitten with Angel as he always has been.
The dramatic lighting of these photos also makes them powerful for solo portraits.
After that first hour in-studio we went out to Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge to take a few more outdoor shots. We did this about an hour before sunset with hopes to get some setting sun shots.
Even though it was super overcast that day, we still managed to get some of that lush afternoon lighting that Texas is so well known for. Since we were working with a lot of golden hues from the grasses, this made everything look golden. I especially love the colors in this photo of Liam and Jonathan!
For the outdoor photoshoot, Angel changed into a few of the Hello Photography maternity gown options. This cream colored one (below) also went well with the golden hour. And I love how keen little Liam was to sit on mom’s baby bump during the shoot!
Normally we don’t do newborn photos outside, but with supervision, it is really fun to do outdoor photos with little ones. They’re so enamored with the world at this age that everything seems wonderful, and it shows in the photos!
In fact, this little guy almost stole the spotlight! But at Hello Photography Austin, we never lose sight of Mommas during our maternity sessions.
Mommas are powerful, beautiful, and to be honored. I was glad to have gotten to take some ethereal solo photos of Angel looking practically angelic in the fields of this beautiful Texas landscape.
As always, wishing this crew the best on the new leg of their journey!
