One of the most common questions I hear from expecting moms is, “Where should we actually take the photos?” If you’re in the Leander, Cedar Park, or Liberty Hill area, you’re in luck. The Hill Country fringe of the Austin metro has some genuinely beautiful spots that most photographers don’t think to use. Here are my favorites for outdoor maternity sessions near Leander.
This is my go-to for Leander families who want something natural and close. The lake views give you gorgeous reflected light in the late afternoon, and the surrounding tree cover means you get shade even on a warm Texas evening. The walking paths are easy to navigate even at 32 weeks, and the scenery shifts nicely between open meadow and wooded areas, great for variety in a single session.

The section of the Brushy Creek Regional Trail that runs through Leander offers beautiful creek-side backdrops with dappled light through the trees. Late October through early December is stunning here, the grasses go golden and the light gets softer. Spring works beautifully too, especially if the wildflowers are cooperating.
About 20 minutes from Leander, Old Settlers Park in Round Rock has wide open green spaces, mature trees, and water features. It’s relaxed, easy to navigate, and photographs beautifully in golden hour. Families who want a classic, timeless outdoor look come to love this one.

If your due date falls between late January and early April, you might be in the magic window for bluebonnet maternity photos. The fields along Ronald Reagan Blvd, Nameless Road near Liberty Hill, and various spots along FM 1431 come alive with wildflowers that are a genuine Texas experience. I always recommend scouting a week before your session, because bloom timing varies year to year.

Texas weather is unpredictable, and at 30-plus weeks pregnant, you shouldn’t have to worry about heat, wind, or a surprise storm. My studio near Leander is designed specifically for maternity and newborn sessions, with soft, flattering light, a curated maternity gown closet, and a calm, private environment. Many of my clients choose a mix, studio portraits first, then golden-hour outdoor shots. It’s the best of both worlds.
Golden hour, the hour or so before sunset, gives you the softest light and the most comfortable temperatures. For bluebonnets, aim for mid-March through early April, though the exact timing shifts year to year.

Most moms do their session somewhere between 30 and 36 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round and you’re usually still comfortable enough to move and pose. If you’re expecting multiples or want to play it safe, a little earlier works well too.

That’s exactly what my studio near Leander is for. We can move your session indoors, or reschedule if you’d rather hold out for that outdoor light. Either way, you’ll get beautiful images without the stress.
