Rain and expensive technology don’t always work together. Luckily for this soon-to-be mama, my camera was up to the task.
This Austin maternity session at Bull Creek District Park went off without a hitch despite the light rain. In some shots, it even enhanced the picture. The rain came at the end of the session, which meant we could get some stunning shots without having to be wet during the entire session.
Bull Creek can be a busy place, but thanks to the drizzle — and my secret photography spot — we took some photos that looked right out of a fairy tale, complete with a prince and princess.
First things first: Taylor & Caesar are an absolutely stunning couple.
I got some serious Angelina Jolie vibes from Taylor, especially in some of her red maternity gown shots. Caesar also looked like a model with his intense eyes, sharp cheekbones, and chiseled chin.
I love my job because the people I meet are just so fun to work with. I love hearing their stories, listening to their worries and hopes for parenthood, and overall just meeting new people.
Taylor & Caesar were a super fun couple to work with because they were open to all of the asks I had for them. Trusting your photographer can be hard. Many moms-to-be can have a difficult time during pregnancy with the way their body is changing. Because of this, it can be understandably hard for some to trust the photography process.
This was not the case for Taylor. She and Caesar rolled with everything I threw at them.
In this shot above, Caesar had just thrown the black fabric of Taylor’s maternity gown.
I usually ask my clients to do this at least once during their sessions because it creates an ethereal, flowy look that translates well in maternity photos. Normally when my maternity clients’ helpers (usually dad) throw the maternity gown fabric, I photoshop them out of the picture. I couldn’t bear to take him out in this one, though. The way they were looking at each other was just too perfect.
Bull Creek District Park is a great place to take outside Austin maternity photos. Depending on the day, it can be busy, but it does offer some quiet spots. One of my favorite spots in the park is a little off the beaten path. However, it is well worth getting your feet wet.
This spot in the park is perfect for photo sessions. It’s accessible enough that you can take good photos during the evening without the risk of falling. It’s also a great spot outside of golden hour because the trees provide enough cover to get good shadows and lighting without getting the sun in your eyes.
As you can see, it’s also great for black and white maternity portraits. There’s enough texture and shadow in the scenery to make it a perfect backdrop for black and white shots.
Oh, how I loved this maternity dress on Taylor!
Black isn’t one of my clients’ top maternity gown choices, but it can create an excellent mood for maternity photos. In many of her shots against the trees, and with the light trickle of rain, it created a whole mood. Her solo shots in this dress looked powerful and hopeful. I especially loved this baby bump shot against the dark green of the trees and surrounded by her flowing black dress.
This little black maternity dress also went so well with the intimacy between Taylor & Caesar. They were such a fun, loving couple. Even though we were taking maternity photos, it almost felt like they were on a date. There was that much of a connection between them the whole time. A little black (maternity) dress was perfect for this couple’s day out taking pictures.
Thanks to Taylor & Caesar for letting me capture their love on film! Best of luck to these parents-to-be.
